Academic activism: societal engagement - social innovation

Academic activism: societal engagement - social innovation

Welcome to this podcast series, by the RE:ERUA pilot project on academic activism.

Whereas academic and research staff at universities are mostly seen as producers of scientific knowledge, their roles as active citizens in multilingual, multicultural societies and as agents of social change have been overlooked in scholar research. Especially at present times where emerging societal issues affect all sectors of the 'quadruple helix', we need new ways (including new research methodologies) to tackle understandings of new roles and actions of social actors. Academic activism, as social engagement of R&I staff in a climate emergency context, will be central in this approach.

The aim of this collaborative project is to conduct research (incl. analysis of research methodologies) on new forms of responsible research inside and beyond universities by emphasizing academic activism as a manifestation of societal engagement and social innovation.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101035808.
